Who we are

What are the End-of-life tire (ELT)?

These are tires that have become waste, which means that the user (generator) has discarded or intends to discard them because they have reached the end of their useful life.

On 26 July 2021, the Special Regime for the Management and Handling of End-of-Life Tires (ELT) came into force by means of D.S. 024-2021-MINAM.

      Tires with rims smaller than 25"

        ACTORS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF (ELT)



        • ACTOR 1:
          Generators

          Tire users (natural or legal person, public or private entity).

          Obligations:

           

          • Minimize, segregate and store ELT.
          • Deliver ELT directly to ELT management systems or indirectly through ELT operators commissioned by the systems. They can also deliver to distributors and traders that are part of a management system.

            • ACTOR 2:
              Producers

              Manufacturer or importer of tires and/or motor vehicles.

              Obligations:

               

              • Design, implement and manage ELT management systems.
              • Submit an ELT Management Plan to MINAM.
              • Comply with the commitments assumed in the Management Plan.
              • Report on the proper management and handling of the ELT.

                • ACTOR 3:
                  Distributors and marketers

                  Performs wholesale or retail distribution of tires.

                  Obligations:

                   

                  • Establish, in coordination with the management systems, collection points for ELT.
                  • Deliver the collected ELT to ELT management systems.
                  • Disseminate and raise awareness among customers on the proper handling and delivery of ELT.

                    • ACTOR 4:
                      Operators

                      Companies authorized to collect, transport, condition and recover ELT.

                      Obligations:

                       

                      • Collect, transport, condition and/or recover ELT.
                      • Handle the non-recoverable parts of the ELT, as established in the Peruvian Law on Integrated Solid Waste Management.
                      • To send the producers copies of the records of the collected, transported, conditioned and/or recovered ELT.

                        Prohibitions

                        • The abandonment and/or burial of ELT throughout the national territory, whether in public or private spaces.
                        • The burning of ELT.
                        • The use of ELT as fuel, without complying with the corresponding emission regulations.
